A well-presented home ready for sale

Preparing your home carefully can make it feel larger, brighter and more welcoming to buyers. These tips have been restored from Duffy Real Estate’s original website.

1. Remove the clutter

Go through each room and remove everything you do not need. This makes rooms look larger and makes packing easier.

2. Patch and paint the walls

Fresh paint can improve the look and feel of your property. Repair cracks and scuff marks, and consider neutral colours that appeal to a broad range of buyers.

3. Give the property a heavy-duty clean

Clean vents, windows, surfaces and overlooked corners. Remove cobwebs and anything that could make the home seem poorly maintained.

4. Steam-clean or replace carpets

Have stained carpets professionally cleaned. If they are heavily worn or marked, consider replacing them where practical.

5. Complete maintenance and repairs

Check for cracked power points, loose handles, broken heating ducts and other small faults. These little details influence how buyers perceive the home.

6. Do not forget outside

Tidy gardens, polish decking and add healthy plants or flowers for colour and street appeal.

7. Refresh handles and tapware

Updating tired door handles, cupboard handles and tapware can make a noticeable difference at relatively low cost.

8. Make every room look its best

Work through one room at a time. Remove unnecessary furniture and leave as much open space as possible.

9. Define each room

Professional staging – or simply furnishing a few key rooms – helps buyers understand the purpose and potential of each space.
